Dineli Fernando (She/Her)

Hometown: Edmonton, AB

Dineli is the Founder & CEO of STEAMistic. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Specialization) in Cell Biology from the University of Alberta & is currently pursuing post-graduate studies in Sociology at the University of Alberta. Dineli founded STEAMistic in 2022 as a response to educational barriers exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic for students from low socioeconomic (SES) backgrounds in her hometown, Edmonton, AB. Dineli is passionate about interdisciplinary education and complementing humanities education with natural sciences. STEAMistic provides free Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) educational materials to students from low SES backgrounds across Edmonton and area. In her free time, you can find Dineli reading fiction books, watching a new TV show, drinking lots of coffee, and spending time with friends and family!

I’m a M.Sc. student studying Chemistry at UofA. I’m highly passionate about education and one of my burning desires is helping people and have a positive impact on their lives. The combination of education with helping youth to have a better experience, lead me to believe that being a part of this organization will fulfill my aspirations and make an impact on young people’s lives.

A fun fact about me is that I really like hugging trees and would randomly and weirdly do it in the public :)

This is my second year at STEAMistic, and I will begin my first year at the University of Calgary this fall, majoring in Kinesiology as a Bachelor of Science. In my free time, you can find me volunteering at the Childrens Hospital, working as a pharmacy assistant, or perfecting my hobby as a nail technician. I joined STEAMistic initally as a creative outlet, later evolving into an opportinuty for leadership, surrounded by likeminded people with a passion for combining science with the arts.

My name is Geet, a high school student passionate about science especially biology. I joined STEAMistic because I believe every young person should have the opportunity to explore STEAM, regardless of their background. Inspired by my father and driven by curiosity, I aim to ignite the same excitement in others. I love studying human biology, reading scientific research papers, and have participated in various science related projects. Through STEAMistic, I hope to help others discover their potential and passion for innovation.

She is a second-year undergraduate student in Engineering at the University of Calgary, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Fascinated by moving machines and driven to understand concepts at their core, her passion for physics was cultivated through community circles with a shared interest in science and the support of her family. She joined STEAMistic to empower youth in Calgary to explore and nurture their interests in science and the arts in the same way. Outside of STEAMistic, she enjoys her faith, watching musicals, and reading novels. A science fact she recently found interesting is that if the Sun were as tall as a typical front door, the Earth would be the size of a nickel.

Cindy is a Biomedical Engineering student who joined STEAMistic after growing up in similar programs that played a significant role in inspiring her to pursue STEM. She is passionate about giving back and helping create opportunities for youth to explore science and engineering. In her free time, Cindy enjoys doing nail art and swimming. Her current favourite song is Swimming Pools by Kendrick Lamar, and her favourite season is fall, as she loves the changing colours of the leaves and the comfortable weather. A science fact she recently found interesting is that a person’s forearm is approximately the same length as their foot.

Edom is a Grade 11 student with a strong interest in STEAM. She joined STEAMistic to explore how creativity and problem-solving come together through innovative projects and community outreach. Edom is particularly interested in science and communication, and enjoys participating in initiatives that inspire and support younger students. In her free time, she plays volleyball, goes to the gym, and works on creative ideas. Her favourite season is summer, as it offers time away from school and opportunities to travel with her family.

I've been working with the STEAMistic team for two years, and I enjoy being a part of this project. As a project manager, I focus on visual content. I'm passionate about modern literature and psychology, and I love listening to music on old vinyl records — there's a unique vibe in the sound.

Maranata is a student who enjoys learning and embracing new experiences. She joined STEAMistic to volunteer, gain hands-on experience, and spend time doing something she is genuinely passionate about. In her free time, Maranata enjoys reading, playing basketball, and exploring her interest in horse riding. A science concept she recently found fascinating is pulsars—rapidly rotating neutron stars that emit beams of electromagnetic radiation.

Hi there! I am a Biological Sciences student in their first year at the University of Alberta. I fondly remember participating in science experiments held by my primary school teachers; they remain one of the pivotal reasons why I pursued my degree in the sciences. I feel incredibly fortunate to play a role in achieving STEAMistic‘s mission of providing crucial learning experiences that foster similar passions in the fields of STEAM. Alongside my brother, I enjoy walks with my dog and the occasional basketball game.

I'm fortunate to presently be a 2nd year Biology/Bioinformatics student at the University of Alberta. Having the opportunity to enhance my skills and diversify my interests is a dream that I'd like to make a reality for other students too. Joining STEAMistic has allowed me to work with an excellent team to achieve this.

Outside of STEAMistic, you may find me taking my limitlessly-energized dog to the park, or playing hockey at local outdoor hockey rinks.

I joined STEAMistic because I strongly support the mission of creating a fun environment for children to further their education and approach academic challenges with an open mind.

A fun fact about me is that I love to travel. My favourite place visited would be Italy! I also love to spend time with my friends and family and do Pilates everyday.

Venus is an undergraduate student at the University of Alberta studying Biology and Chemistry. She joined STEAMistic after experiencing financial barriers in her own education and is passionate about supporting youth and showing them that pursuing STEAM is both accessible and worthwhile. Outside of STEAMistic, Venus enjoys taking her dog on walks (on the days he isn’t barking at everything) and spending her free time reading fiction. A science fact she recently found fascinating is that stargazing is essentially time travel—some of the stars we see today may have died long ago, but their light is only now reaching Earth.

Charlize is a Grade 11 student from Edmonton who immigrated from the Philippines in 2023 and is still adjusting to Canada’s cold weather. She joined STEAMistic because of her strong interest in balancing STEM and the arts, and her desire to make a meaningful impact through her actions. Charlize hopes to inspire others to discover their own sense of purpose through creativity, learning, and community involvement. Her current favourite song is The View Between Villages by Noah Kahan.

Angelica is a second-year Psychology student with a minor in Family Science. She joined STEAMistic to explore and contribute to the intersections between science and art. Angelica is passionate about empowering youth to pursue their interests and values opportunities to collaborate with organizations that share a commitment to youth development and accessible education. In her free time, she especially enjoys the summer season, appreciating the many markets and community events, and the warmth of the sun after a long winter.

Tobi is a Chemical Engineering PhD candidate with an academic background in Polymer Technology and Chemistry with Polymer Science. He joined STEAMistic to share his knowledge and inspire the younger generation to explore the many wonders of science and technology. Tobi is deeply passionate about learning and research, guided by the belief that “if you are determined to learn, no one can stop you.” In his free time, he enjoys continuous learning, faith-based reflection, and listening to his current favourite song, Been So Good by Elevation Worship.
